  • We’ve launched a new endoscopy service at Finchley Memorial Hospital community diagnostic centre (CDC). Transnasal endoscopy (TNE) is a procedure where a thin, flexible endoscope is inserted through the nose and down the throat to examine the oesophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Bringing this service to the CDC frees up capacity in our hospitals and makes diagnostics easier to access for patients. “It is a well-tolerated procedure for most, but there are some patients who may need an alternative approach,” says Andrew Millar, consultant gastroenterologist. “Having the choice of transnasal endoscopy allows patients to go home quickly and carry on with their normal day.” Find out more here: https://ow.ly/SFOe50WtOuR

  • Register for our next Medicine for Members’ event, ‘Let’s talk menopause — supporting women’s health at every stage’, which will take place on Tuesday 29 July from 6pm. We will showcase the crucial work taking place at the Royal Free London to support women through menopause – a natural, but often overlooked, stage in life. Over 13 million women in the UK are currently peri or post-menopausal — more than one-third of the female population. Its impact can be profound, affecting everything from work performance and relationships to mental health and daily wellbeing. Despite this, many women feel unseen, unheard, and unsupported during this critical life change. During the event, we will explore the innovative work being done across our hospitals to provide holistic, practical support for patients going through menopause, from managing physical symptoms to giving families the tools to help their loved ones through the transition. Members of our dietetics and physiotherapy teams will also share valuable insights on how lifestyle changes — particularly in diet and exercise — can help manage common symptoms and improve quality of life. Attendees will have the chance to have their questions answered by our panel of speakers during the interactive Q&A. To submit a question in advance, please contact our membership team via email: rf-tr.membership@nhs.net by 5pm on Friday 25 July. This event will be streamed online using Microsoft Teams and is free and open to patients, carers, staff and members of the public as well as our trust membership. You do not need to be a member to attend the event. To book your place, please contact our membership team using the details above by 5pm on Monday 28 July. Our Medicine for Members’ events are hosted by our governors and focus on topics which are important to patients, staff and the local community.
