About us
South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is part of the National Health Service (NHS). We respond to 999 calls from the public and healthcare professionals. We cover a diverse geographical area of 3,600 square miles (Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey, and North East Hampshire), which includes densely populated urban areas, sparsely populated rural areas and some of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country. We have over 4,000 staff working across 119 sites in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Almost 90 per cent of our workforce is made up of operational staff – those caring for patients either face to face, or over the phone at one of our Emergency Operations Centres. Our patients range from the critically ill and injured who need specialist treatment, to those with minor healthcare needs who can be treated at home or in the community. As well as a 999 service, we also provide the NHS 111 service for Kent, Medway and Sussex (together with IC24) for when it’s urgent but not life-threatening.

SECAmb's "trailblazer in paramedic-led research" has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the College of Paramedics. Prof Julia Williams, Head of Research at the Trust, received the prestigious award - the highest honour the College can bestow – at a ceremony at Keele University on Friday 27 July. "The impact that Julia has had on the paramedic profession, both nationally, internationally and here at SECAmb is extraordinary," said Jaqui Lindridge, Chief Paramedic Officer at the Trust. "A trailblazer in paramedic-led research, Julia has been instrumental in empowering and enabling paramedics to develop a firm evidence base for practice and richly deserves this College of Paramedic Lifetime Achievement Award." Prof Williams, who has been Head of Research at SECAmb since 2013, said: "I'm incredibly honoured and genuinely humbled to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award. Being recognised by my peers, especially for something as close to my heart as research, is truly special." To read more about this story, head over to our website: https://lnkd.in/ekMmmUPT

Today we celebrate 10 years since the launch of the National Ambulance LGBT+ Network.🎉 Founded at Brighton and Hove Pride in 2015, the network is made up of representatives from across all 10 ambulance trusts, which work together to bring about positive changes for LGBT+ communities across the country. Just a couple of days away from this year’s Brighton and Hove Pride, we thank all those involved in hosting conferences, developing educational resources, providing support and striving to reduce barriers to healthcare. Plans are now under way for a National conference in 2027. 💚

Looking forward to unveiling our new specially-wrapped Pride vehicle on Friday ahead of this weekend's Brighton and Hove Pride. Following the parade, the vehicle, decoration which was gratefully funded through sponsorship from some of our suppliers and unions, will be used at various events across the South East before becoming fully operational with the Pride livery for staff and the local community to spot on the road. If you're attending Brighton Pride this weekend, please #HelpUsHelpYou by taking care and looking out for yourself and each other. Help us manage demand across the weekend by only calling 999 in an emergency and by making use of NHS 111 by phone and online as well pharmacies and local health centres for help and advice. Dartford based Paramedic Lauren Calvert has been formally commended by Kent Police for her heroic response to a serious school bus crash in Kent. Lauren was one of the first on scene alongside Special Constable Joe, providing life-saving care to dozens of injured children after a bus carrying 60 students collided with a tractor. She’s been praised for her courage, compassion and exceptional clinical skill, and we couldn’t be prouder. Congratulations Lauren and Joe, and a huge thank you to members of the public who helped at the scene and supported our crews. Your actions made a real difference. 💚

🚨 A training exercise on responding to an infectious disease emergency is ensuring SECAmb crews and hospital teams are prepared for high-risk scenarios. Our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) clinicians are participating in a series of training days alongside NHS colleagues at #Maidstone Hospital this summer. "This joint exercise with Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a vital part of our HART training cycle. By working closely with our NHS partners, we continue to strengthen our resilience in managing complex and high-risk scenarios," said Adam Streather, Head of Resilience at SECAmb. The exercise scenario involves tackling a high-consequence infectious disease (HCID) emergency. While rare in the UK, an HCID situation requires a well-drilled response to ensure it is managed effectively and safely. “Training with our emergency services colleagues tests the knowledge and skills of our teams, and improves our responses to make sure we keep people safe in a real incident – helping save lives," said John Weeks, Director of MTW Emergency Planning. "Realistic settings help us all be better prepared for emergencies, so we were pleased to support our HART paramedic colleagues with this exercise at Maidstone Hospital.” #trainingpartnerships #buildingresilience
