“I’m so proud that I have a degree at nearly 50 years old.” Newly qualified paramedic Lisa is amongst the other sixty #TeamLAS colleagues who have successfully completed their degree in paramedic science from the University of Cumbria. London Ambulance Service fully funds student paramedics on the university programme and they continue to earn their salary working as emergency medical technicians (EMT) on ambulances while they complete their degree. It means students can develop clinical experience along the way and qualify without getting into debt, making it more accessible for Londoners. Huge congratulations to our new cohort of paramedics 💚

Congratulations to Robbie and Erika, paramedics from #TeamLAS and North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust who were commended to saving the life of a fire fighter who went into cardiac arrest whilst attending a training event at Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service and Rescue Service’s training ground in Bury. Robbie said: “On our arrival the firefighter was dazed but conscious. During my assessment and whilst awaiting for an emergency ambulance the firefighter deteriorated. “I began chest compressions as the patient had stopped breathing on his own and required immediate interventions – his face was very blue. “Firefighters and I then took it in turns to perform chest compressions and counted each other in.” Due to the swift action of the paramedics and firefighters, the patient regained consciousness and was taken to hospital for further treatment. Congratulations to our newest cohort of Incident Response Officers, who received their certificates and epaulettes earlier this month. They made it through an intensive four week course to successfully become an Incident Response Officer. An Incident Response Officer will respond and oversee complex incidents or situations that involve multiple patients – and will ensure the safety of our patients, staff and volunteers on scene as their primary role, along with welfare support post incident.

Those are the words from Ashleigh, who for the first time ever completed the challenging 54 mile ride from Clapham Common to Brighton last year. Following a sudden, sad loss of her friend who worked for London Ambulance Service, Ashleigh decided to raise funds for the London Ambulance Charity - who fund life saving equipment for the communities in London alongside wellbeing support initiatives for #TeamLAS If you are like Ashleigh and want to tick off your bucket list, why not sign up for London Ambulance Charity annual London to Brighton race today! Our new Chief Executive Jason Killens KAM has now started his tenure at London Ambulance Service NHS Trust, marking a return to London where he began his career as an Emergency Medical Technician. Jason said: “It's great to be back here at London Ambulance Service after ten years away. My career started here when I was 21, back in 1996 as an Emergency Medical Technician in north east London. Since then I've been away in Australia and most recently in Wales. It’s like coming home for me. “I’ll be focused on driving forward improvements that ensure our Service is the best it can be for the nine million people living in London and against the backdrop of an ageing population with more complex needs and growing demand on the NHS.” Full story on our website: https://lnkd.in/ewjB9PPV #NHS #NHSLeadership #Ambulance
