Working to make Wollondilly an even better place, together.

About us

On the Southern outskirts of Sydney, Wollondilly is surrounded by spectacular natural beauty and rural pastures. Its 2,560 km2 stretch from Yanderra in the south and Appin and Menangle in the east, to Warragamba in the north and the Nattai Wilderness and Burragorang Valley in the west. The district is rich in Aboriginal and European history. A colourful tapestry interweaves the Dreamtime legends of the Gundangurra and Tharawal people on a backdrop of gorges, ranges and plains, with a rural patchwork created by the white settlers who followed the first fleet's famous staying cattle to the Cowpastures. Today, it is the lifestyle of the area that attracts visitors and Council is committed to a planned and balanced development that will maintain community values and lifestyle choices.

  • 🗞️ COUNCIL WELCOMES NEW NATIONAL PARK NEAR APPIN, FOLLOWING CALLS FOR WILDLIFE PROTECTION 🗞️ Wollondilly Shire Council has welcomed the NSW Government’s declaration of a new National Park to help protect habitat for the threatened local koala population – another project identified in Council’s key advocacy priorities Future Wollondilly. The newly gazetted Warranmadhaa National Park will cover 962 hectares of land along the Georges River between Long Point and Appin, which will help connect fragmented habitat in the area. The Park is expected to increase in size in future, with plans to acquire new land that would see it eventually grow to 1,830 hectares. Mayor Matt Gould said, “The declaration of a new National Park near Appin is great news for our local environment and the community. This will help protect valuable corridors for our koalas and other native wildlife habitat, while embracing the natural bushland that is an essential part of our beautiful Wollondilly Shire.” “I’d like to thank NSW Environment Minister Penny Sharpe as well as our Campbelltown local member Greg Warren MP for all their hard work on this issue.” “With significant growth expected in the state-led growth areas of Appin and Wilton over the next 10 years, Council has been calling for a protected Wollondilly where our rural lands, breathtaking landscapes, and rich biodiversity are safeguarded and our natural heritage remains intact for future generations.” “This is a good first step in preserving important wildlife corridors in the Appin area and it should be expanded, including further south along the Bargo River Gorge and Nepean River.” “I also acknowledge local member for Wollondilly, Judy Hannan MP for her support for koala protections on behalf of the community.” “Council has made good progress recently on some of our high priority issues; including a second high school for the Shire at Wilton, a bus service between Wilton and Campbelltown, and funding for rail corridors connecting Macarthur to the new Western Sydney Airport. We will continue to work with our partners to advance our key priorities as part of our Advocacy Framework Future Wollondilly.” #FutureWollondilly NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service

  • 🌿 On Friday 11 July, Wollondilly Shire Council supported the Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council’s NAIDOC Week celebration, a vibrant event that featured over 40 amazing stalls. Council’s Environment Team, Dilly Wanderer, Recovery and Resilience Van and Mobile Library joined a wide range of community organisations and service providers on the day, contributing to a great event that celebrated culture, community, and connection. We gave away more than 150 native plants along with vegetable seed packs, encouraging attendees to grow their own food and support native biodiversity at home. Staff were on hand to provide advice on planting techniques, native species selection, and sustainable gardening practices while promoting the Robin Davies Community Nursery and providing information on Bushcare volunteering opportunities. The day was a great success, with strong community engagement and many visitors expressing interest in Council’s programs. Well done to the teams for delivering a successful and meaningful presence at this important community event!

Our Wollondilly Shire Council Government Services Building – Façade taking shape.   This week sees the installation of the first curtain wall panels for the facade on the Corbett Lane side of the Government Services Building - Stage 2 of the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct, which includes the recently completed Performing Arts Centre, Children’s Services Building and refurbishment and improvements to the Wollondilly Shire Hall.    These panels are delivered to site, craned onto the roof where they are assembled and then lowered down using a spider crane for installation. It’s a highly coordinated process that allows each panel to be precisely positioned and securely attached to each slab to form the façade.   The aluminium fins are not just for aesthetics, they help reduce glare, manage heat, and contribute to the building’s energy efficiency.  Over the coming weeks, more of these finishes will be added, giving us all a glimpse of the final architectural look of the Government Services Building.  She sure is a beautiful building!

  • 🏃 WOLLONDILLY 2024-25 RESIDENTIAL DA TIMES FASTEST IN NSW🏃 Wollondilly's residential development assessment timeframes are officially the fastest in NSW for the 2024-25 financial year, according to the NSW Planning Department's Council League Table https://bit.ly/4cWkwuh Given that only five councils determined more DAs than Wollondilly during the period, this is a fantastic result that is helping us meet (and exceed) our housing targets. It could only have been achieved through a massive team effort across Council - from our front counter Customer Service staff through to the Development Services team, building certifiers, teams taking referrals and supporting teams including Finance, People and Wellbeing and IT. Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved for consistently delivering such fantastic results. Go Wollondilly!

  • Wollondilly Shire Council acknowledged NAIDOC Week with a flag raising ceremony outside the Shire Hall on Wednesday, celebrating the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their enduring legacies. Council’s Environment Team, Dilly Wanderer, Recovery and Resilience Van and Mobile Library also supported Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council’s NAIDOC event today. This is an important time to stand together with our local indigenous community and acknowledge their stewardship of the land on which we stand. #NAIDOCWeek
