We’re proud to be part of the conversation! Great recap, Victoria, and thank you to the team at The Lancashire Skills and Employment Hub for hosting such an impactful Custody to Career Roundtable last week. It was a privilege to share our experience alongside other forward-thinking organisations, and to hear how employers across the construction and transport sectors are stepping up to offer second chances and tackle skills shortages head-on. At Kenny Waste Management — and through our Social Enterprise — we believe that giving someone an opportunity isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s also good business. If you're an employer with projects in Lancashire, we’d encourage you to connect with the brilliant partners involved and explore how you can make a real difference. #SocialValue #CustodyToCareer #LancashireSkills #ConstructionCareers #Transport #SecondChances #StrongerWorkforce
On Friday, I had the opportunity to attend the Custody to Career Roundtable, hosted by The Lancashire Skills and Employment Hub. The event focused on unlocking pathways into the construction and transport sectors, specifically for individuals leaving custody — a crucial step toward reducing reoffending and tackling skills shortages. Key discussions included: 🔹 An overview of current initiatives and partnerships with the Prison Service 🔹 The growing importance of social value in supporting bids and tenders 🔹 Insightful case studies from employers already working with HMPPS, including Recycling Lives Charity and Kenny Waste Management. 🔹 A collaborative group discussion exploring both opportunities and barriers for Lancashire-based employers with vacancies or upcoming projects It was encouraging to see the commitment from local businesses and stakeholders to drive change, offer second chances, and contribute to a stronger, more inclusive workforce in Lancashire. If you’re an employer with current vacancies and/or live or upcoming projects in the region, there are real opportunities to get involved and make a lasting impact — both socially and commercially.
