Celebrating South Asian Heritage Month and the rich cultures, histories and communities of South Asia. We listened to some powerful stories from a range of speakers showcasing the vibrant culture and a shared sense of pride in South Asian roots and journeys. We welcomed Professor Shafi Ahmed, who travelled from London to be with us. A globally renowned surgeon, innovator, and educator. Professor Ahmed was the first surgeon in the world to live-stream an operation in virtual reality. Emma Cowling, deputy laboratory manager at Salford Royal Hospital has been awarded the Siemens Healthineers Customer Excellence Award. 🏆 The award recognises her work supporting the launch of the new FlexLab X automated system which is bringing faster turnaround times on test results for patients. 🏥 FlexLab is a huge, automated conveyor belt system that once loaded by staff, transports blood samples across the laboratory, loading the blood tubes onto the analysers for testing. 🧪 Emma’s exceptional leadership and guidance has ensured a smooth transition to routine biochemistry work for the team. 👏

Having a child with autism can put strain on you and your family. For fathers, they can often hide their emotions away and find it harder to accept advice from others. A support group Fathers of Autistic Children Empowered to Support (FACES) has been established in Salford to promote collaborative problem solving and help enhance mental health and wellbeing for fathers of children with autism. The walk and talk group meet at Clifton Country Park (outside the Café) on the third Saturday of the month and is helping create a network of dads who can share their experiences and support each other.
