We’re making our residents’ homes more energy efficient by adding solar panels, insulation and ventilation. This makes them easier to keep warm, reduces the need for heating and helps residents spend less on energy. We’re working with the government and partners like Lloyds Bank to help tackle fuel poverty and cut carbon emissions. Lloyds CEO Charlie Nunn recently visited our homes at Shaftesbury Park in Battersea, where we’re improving the energy efficiency of more than 1,000 homes. Watch the video to find out more ⬇️
“I look at houses as living things. I’m a doctor for buildings.” Something I heard this Summer from Rashida Kutubu, who showed me around an area of Battersea where Peabody are increasing the energy efficiency of social housing. As these are Victorian properties on a heritage estate, they require extra thought and care when retrofitting solar panels, heat pumps and insulation. But the benefits are clear – enabling the transition to a low carbon economy, and lowering energy bills for people and families. The Centre for Ageing Better has found that every £1 spent improving the warmth of homes occupied by vulnerable households, achieves £4 in good health outcomes. At Lloyds Banking Group, we’ve delivered over £20 billion for social housing since 2018 – including, last year alone, £1.2 billion for sustainability-linked builds and retrofit. And we recently announced £60 million to support Peabody’s upgrade of thousands of social homes across London and the Southeast – the largest loan to date, under the Government’s National Wealth Fund-backed retrofit scheme. Everyone benefits from homes which are good quality, warmer and more affordable to run.

Providing new opportunities for local people is a key part of our long-term regeneration of Thamesmead. The recent YEA! Thamesmead initiative is a great example of this. This 10-week accelerator programme saw nine entrepreneurs aged 18-30 take part in business mentoring, masterclasses and peer learning, before getting the chance to pitch for up to £4,000 in funding. Led by Local Champions CIC, it’s one of many business support schemes we’ve backed. 🎶 A new beat in Luton We’ve just opened the doors to a brand-new music studio in Marsh Farm, Luton – a space designed with and for young people. This isn’t just about music. It’s about opportunity, creativity and community. The studio gives young people a safe, professional space to explore their talents, build confidence and connect with others. It’s part of our wider work to invest in local communities and create spaces where people can thrive. We worked closely with local partners and residents to bring this project to life – and the energy at the launch event said it all. One young person told us: 🗣️ “It’s a place where we can be ourselves and do something positive.” 🎧 Want to know more? https://lnkd.in/evNMX8UU

We proudly took part in the Peabody programme, dedicated to empowering 16–18 year olds from social housing communities and opening doors to meaningful careers in housing. Kaijah McMahon, our Head of Social Value, led a dynamic 2-hour interview technique workshop that combined her 20 years of working in the arts with practical, confidence-building exercises. Through acting and drama, Kaijah helped unlock new skills, boost self-belief, and prepare these young people to step boldly into their futures. The energy and transformation in the room today were undeniable, this wasn’t just a workshop, it was a catalyst for change, equipping participants with vital tools to overcome barriers and seize real opportunities. Making this kind of impact is why we do what we do. #Peabodyprogramme #Youthempowerment #Socialhousing #Interviewskills #Careerdevelopment #Confidencebuilding #ArtsInAction #Futureleaders #Housingcareers #ImpactInAction #Choosehousing Corin Menuge (he/him) Evelina Sredovska Elly H. 🏘️ JUST ANNOUNCED: Lloyds Banking Group and Peabody agree £60m loan to retrofit thousands of social homes. The new funding will enable Peabody to carry out tailored energy efficiency upgrades, including insulation, low-energy lighting, heat pumps, solar panels, flood resilience measures, and water-saving technologies to social homes across London and the Southeast. The loan is the largest to date under the National Wealth Fund’s £1.3 billion social housing retrofit guarantee scheme. The pioneering partnership between the public and private sector aims to deliver warmer, more efficient homes for social tenants, while supporting the UK’s broader net zero ambitions. #HelpingBritainProsper #SocialHousing
