Updates

  • On Thursday 24th July, we were proud to host the Greater Manchester Bee Network Committee for the first time at our offices at 2 Piccadilly Place.   The Committee - made up of representatives from the Mayor, GMCA, and all 10 GM local authorities - plays a vital role in shaping the future of transport across Greater Manchester. With decision-making powers on funding, policy, and network changes, their work is central to delivering the Bee Network vision.   Chaired by Cllr Eammon O’Brien, Leader of Bury Council, the meeting covered: The 18–21 discounted fare scheme A proposed Lane Rental Scheme to better manage roadworks Approval of new night bus services for Bury and Rochdale Funding for key transport infrastructure projects A statement from Vernon Everitt (read by Steve Warrener) on the recent Eccles bus incident   Before the meeting, members toured our Operational Control Centre, led by Maggie Carter, Head of Network Development and Implementation. They saw first-hand how our integrated, multi-agency approach keeps Greater Manchester moving - especially during major events like the recent Oasis gigs at Heaton Park.   A big thank you to everyone who made the day a success!

  • Meet Harvey, a 19-year-old apprentice who has been building #BeeNetwork buses in Rochdale. These smaller buses are essential for people getting around, especially on local estates where bigger buses sometimes can't reach.    This week, a new Greater Manchester Strategy was launched, setting out a vision for the next decade to create a thriving city region where everyone can live a good life.    An important part of this is a Bee Network that will make it even easier to get around, connecting every community like never before and Harvey takes pride in playing his part in this.   #TogetherWeAreGM

  • Today marks the launch of No More Flowers, our latest campaign with Safer Roads GM, designed to raise awareness of the real risks and irreversible consequences of speeding. Every year, far too many lives are lost or changed forever on our roads. Behind every set of flowers tied to a lamp post is a family, a friend, a community left grieving. And too often, these tragedies happen because someone was driving too fast. This campaign takes a new approach. Instead of speaking only to the most at-risk drivers (young males aged 20–29), we’re calling on those who influence them: mothers, parents, and drivers aged 40+ across Greater Manchester. Our goal is to spark conversations, to change perceptions, and ultimately, to save lives. Because it’s not about slowing down a little - it’s about ensuring that no more lives are lost, and no more flowers are needed at the roadside. 🌸 You’ll see this brought to life with floral installations in Manchester city centre, Bolton and Oldham, serving as powerful reminders of what’s at stake. https://lnkd.in/eUxsx4zN
