Budding horticulturists from Wigan & Leigh College and University Centre have been earning valuable experience at Haigh Woodland Park over the last couple of months. 🌳 The students recently completed an 8-week pre-apprenticeship course learning skills and getting an insight into a potential career in horticulture. 🍃 One student said: “I love the fact that we are part of the change here at Haigh. I’ve developed interests in different style of gardening, learnt about benefits of using different materials and more about native species too. It’s a shame it has come to an end, we want to stay on and do more!” Would you like to keep up to date with the transformation of Haigh, or be kept in the loop about future opportunities? Eagle-eyed residents may have spotted a familiar backdrop on the news this week... ... as Chancellor Rachel Reeves launched the £500m Better Futures Fund at Westleigh Methodist Primary School. The visit was hosted by AllChild who we're working alongside on an amazing project to support young people... ...and you can read all about it in the latest edition of Borough Life magazine. Links in the comments below!
When the Chancellor visited AllChild in Leigh (Wigan Council) it was a chance to talk about what really works. Our CEO, Louisa Mitchell MBE, shared how our Social Outcomes Partnership model unites communities around one vision: Together, every child and young person can flourish. The Ministers were especially interested in our local, place-based approach - built on listening, co-design, and shared accountability - and our plans to grow a dynamic national blueprint for change. Our brilliant North West Regional Director, Jenny Muter, also updated Rt Hon Lisa Nandy and MP Josh Simons on what’s happening in Wigan: from Link Workers to schools, local charities to the council - 18 months of groundwork now delivering real, measurable impact.
