This week we welcomed journalist and author Peter Apps to our Swindon office, where he shared his insights from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry with over 100 Beard colleagues and consultants. Drawing from his powerful book Show Me the Bodies: How We Let Grenfell Happen, Peter presented on the systemic failures that led to the tragedy - and the responsibility within the sector to build better. In the words of our Safety Director Jamie Harwood FCIOB, CEnv: “This session wasn’t about blame. It was about responsibility. About leadership. About the decisions we make every day on site and in our offices.” At Beard, we’re committed to upskilling our teams and ensuring best practice in all areas of operations and delivery. A huge thank you to Peter for giving us the opportunity to pause, reflect and reaffirm our collective commitment to safety, ethics and excellence in everything we do. We're pleased to have completed a milestone 15th modernisation project on independent living schemes for Stroud District Council. 🏘️ The long-standing partnership has seen us remodel communal spaces, improve facilities and laundry areas, renovate guest accommodation, and upgrade wellbeing areas on 15 sites since the partnership started in 2018. “What’s particularly rewarding here is that the scope of work is determined in consultation with residents, from large-scale remodelling down to the colour schemes for the décor, so we know it will directly improve their day-to-day living and be appreciated by them," said Martin Pomroy, Special Projects Manager. Ali Fisk, Head of Property Services at Stroud District Council, said: “Ensuring the health, safety and comfort of our residents is a top priority, particularly as they remain in their homes while improvement works take place. Beard and their subcontractors have shown a consistently thoughtful and professional approach across all sites throughout the programme." 🛠️ Our special projects division works on projects worth between £300,000 and £2 million in value, which typically includes remodelling, refurbishment and renovation works. #BuildWithAmbition #BeardConstruction Jamie Harwood FCIOB, CEnv

Our Southampton office swapped hard hats for egg and spoon races during their first ever charity sports day! 🏃♀️➡️ 🍳 Teams picked up the baton for a good cause, and sprinted towards the finish line to raise money for Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices. Lynda Crook, Senior Corporate Fundraiser at the charity, explained the significance of the event and the ongoing support of Beard: "Beard construction is one of the amazing businesses that we started to work with back in January. Without the support of our corporate partners, we wouldn't be able to keep our services running." From welly wanging to sack races, people hit the track with the aim of raising over £2,000 for Naomi House & Jacksplace. They were supported by local businesses who contributed to the charity, including Woodcut Media Ltd and Mid Hampshire Healthcare Ltd. The day was extra special for Southampton team member Adam Griffiths, as his daughter receives regular respite care at the hospice. "My daughter Orla was born with an exceptionally rare chromosomal disorder. Naomi House is amazing - they give families like ours the chance to take a bit of time out and relax. It's so important that we give back and support our communities." Watch Ollie Chun, Southampton Office Lead, explain how a day of fun and games could make all the difference to an incredible charity 👇 #BeardConstruction #BuildWithAmbition #CorporateCharity #Fundraising

Behind every award-winning building is a strong team 🏆 This year’s RIBA South Awards recognised two Oxford projects where Beard played a vital role: 🏛️ At Rhodes House, we worked with Stanton Williams and PENDERY ARCHITECTURE & HERITAGE LTD to carefully blend old and new – restoring historic features while introducing standout elements like the spiral staircase, praised by the RIBA judges for its engineering and craft. 📚 At the Jackson Library, we worked closely with Nex— and Donald Insall Associates to breathe new life into a historic structure – delivering a low-carbon, user-friendly space that earned four prestigious RIBA awards. From heritage preservation to sustainable innovation, both projects are a masterclass in teamwork and shared expertise. We're incredibly proud of our teams, and the partners we worked alongside to deliver these exceptional builds. 💬 “These projects exemplify how quality construction can honour heritage and serve modern needs.” – Dean Averies, Oxford Director Read more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eej-Raz5 #BeardConstruction #BuildWithAmbition #RIBASouthAwards #HeritageBuild #Conservation
