  • ✪ 𝘼 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙀𝙧𝙖 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙥𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙏𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙖𝙙𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙏𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙪𝙙𝙨 ✪ Today marks a historic moment for our town as The Blackpool Tower (including the Circus, Ballroom, Dungeons & Eye) and Madame Tussauds officially move to local management under Blackpool Tourism Limited - a company wholly owned by Blackpool Council. This new arrangement sees the attractions transition from management by Merlin Entertainments, who have operated them on the Council’s behalf since 2010, to a new partnership model. Under this, Blackpool Tourism Limited will run Madame Tussauds and The Dungeons under the first-ever UK franchise agreements for these iconic brands, ensuring their continued presence in the resort. Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “From today, The Blackpool Tower is run by the people of Blackpool, for the people of Blackpool. When a visitor spends money in the Tower or Madame Tussauds, those pounds are supporting crucial local projects that help us make Blackpool better for everyone who lives here. "I hope residents really feel ownership of our Tower as a local asset that we are lucky to have and enjoy on our doorstep.” Kate Shane MBE, Managing Director of Blackpool Tourism Limited, added: "We remain committed to creating local employment opportunities and nurturing the careers of the talented individuals who make up the Blackpool Tourism family, ensuring the continued ambitions and success of Blackpool are mirrored through our colleagues. “This marks an exciting new chapter for the UK’s number one seaside resort. It’s a powerful opportunity to reimagine and reinvest in these world-class experiences.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/evQB4vQq

  • 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒑𝒐𝒐𝒍 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 is Blackpool's Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC). The health inequalities research project uses the day to day experiences of Blackpool residents to help inform decisions about council and health services. Here’s what the team have been up to over the last month: ⭐️ Funding and co-delivering a health inequalities research capacity and capability programme with NHS Research and Development North West and Lancaster University. ⭐️ Welcoming three new members to the team, each bringing their own expertise and skills to help us become a more research-active town. ⭐️ Attending the annual HDRC conference in Leeds, an opportunity to hear from other HDRC’s and share the great work to improve health inequalities across the country. ⭐️ Running engagement sessions at Moor Park Library, inviting local residents to discuss what issues they’re having, what solutions could help and the impact research can have in making those solutions happen. The team even created some fun colouring sheets for younger members of the community to enjoy! • Going, going, almost gone! ⏳ Demolition is almost complete on the old police station on Bonny Street, marking an important step in preparing the site for redevelopment. The land is being marketed to private sector investors to bring forward proposals for a new leisure attraction. The full programme of demolition has already cleared: ✅ The former magistrates' court ✅ Chapel Street car park ✅ The old joke shop on Central Drive As part of the works, Bonny Street is currently closed to traffic. The cost for the demolition is met from funding allocated by the UK Government as part of the Blackpool Town Deal.
