One year of #SiteUpdateFriday’s! And what better way to celebrate than with another award, this time for our brilliant team at Kodak (Harrow View East). The team has now completed Phase 1 of the development, delivering 247 new homes, all affordable, and has been highly commended at the Bricks Awards earlier this month. Major Projects Development of the Year. What a great achievement! The Bricks Site Recognition Awards recognise developers who consistently deliver quality workmanship and site management throughout the year and we couldn’t be prouder of Vincent Monaghan, Matthew Ahrens, Beri Feric, Lee Aylott, Toby Bonner, Gareth Powell and the entire team.
About us
L&Q is one of the UK’s leading housing associations and developers. We were founded on a simple belief: high quality housing is vital for people’s health, happiness and security. Everyone deserves a quality home that gives them the chance to live a better life. Today that passion about the importance of housing, and our not-for-profit ethos, gives us our social purpose. All our resources and all our energy are channelled towards providing better housing at a lower cost than can be provided in the private sector – and building more of it. We provide greater security of tenure and services people can rely on. 250,000 people call our properties ‘home’, and we’re proud to serve diverse communities across London, the South East and North West of England. It’s important our 3,000-strong workforce reflects the residents we serve. We have been named one of Britain’s top LGBT+ employers and one of the best workplaces for women and wellbeing.

We are proud to support and contribute to a great piece of work by Winckworth Sherwood LLP on the importance of partnerships in delivering the high-quality affordable housing this country needs. For us, at L&Q, working in partnership has been about delivering projects we couldn’t pursue on our own, as well as maximising the impact in the communities we work in and the schemes we invest in. However, not all partnerships are equal and we always seek to ensure that our working relationships are underpinned by shared values and goals. As Angie Hooper, our New Business Director puts it: “Choosing a business partner is much like choosing a life partner. You want someone whose values align with yours. If not, the relationship will be short-lived. We take the time to ensure our partners share our core principles. While this isn’t always the most exciting part of the process, it pays real dividends in the long run, far beyond simply getting excited about bricks and mortar”.

Last Thursday, under the sunny London skies, our Spectrum staff network hosted an LGBT+ history walk through Westminster. Colleagues explored key landmarks and uncovered powerful stories that highlight both how far we’ve come and how much more progress is needed on the path to equality. It was an inspiring afternoon of learning, reflection, and connection. The walk was run by London Guided Walks, who brought the history to life with insight and passion. We recently took part in the Stop Social Housing Stigma Campaign's Pioneer Traveller project. It encouraged us to reflect on our culture, our language, and our processes and to ask: are we helping to reduce stigma, or reinforcing it without realising? We don’t have all the answers; this work is ongoing, and we’re still learning. But some lessons are already clear: 1. Tackling stigma can’t be a side project. It must be part of everything we do. 2. Size isn’t a barrier. Every organisation can make space for reflection and resident-led change. 3. Some challenges are cultural, others practical. 4. Language carries weight. It can reinforce harmful narratives or help dismantle them. 5. Good intentions aren’t enough. Progress takes humility and a willingness to be challenged. 6. We need ways to measure progress that are co-developed with residents Read more in our comment piece for Inside Housing , by Isobelle Connor and Rosie Ward: https://brnw.ch/21wUdBD
