Each year, thousands of lives are affected by tobacco, alcohol and unhealthy food and drink—the three biggest killers in our communities. This week Greater Manchester and Humber and North Yorkshire health leaders have partnered with three national organisations - Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), the Alcohol Health Alliance, and the Obesity Health Allian - to launch a new toolkit. It is designed to support regional and local authorities in tackling the harms caused by alcohol and unhealthy food and drink—building on the successes of tobacco control policy. This framework provides clear actions aimed at protecting people from harmful commercial environments. By applying five high-impact actions coherently across alcohol and unhealthy food and drink—as seen with tobacco—we can make a real and lasting difference to health outcomes in our communities: Regulate advertising – to prevent promotion of unhealthy products Shape use and environment – to reduce availability Influence price and affordability – to influence purchasing and consumption decisions Communicate health messages - to inform of risks and benefits Provide treatment - to those at risk of harm Find out more in the Three Biggest Killers regional toolkit https://orlo.uk/VlwoG

The NHS 10-Year Health Plan The UK government has unveiled a bold 10-year strategy to reshape the National Health Service, aiming to create a system that is more accessible, efficient, and focused on prevention. Central to this vision are three shifts: - From Hospital to Community: Expanding care into local neighbourhoods, making services more accessible. - From Analogue to Digital: Leveraging technology to streamline operations and enhance patient experience. - From Sickness to Prevention: Emphasising early intervention and healthier lifestyles. In Greater Manchester, these national objectives are being realised through the Live Well movement - a collaborative effort to tackle health, social, and economic inequalities by integrating services across public, voluntary, and community sectors. This approach focuses on community-led, preventative models that reduce reliance on crisis services and improve overall well-being. Additionally, the region is pioneering innovative partnerships, such as a world-first trial with Eli Lilly to evaluate the use of weight-loss medication in addressing economic inactivity. This initiative underscores Greater Manchester's commitment to leveraging innovation to meet local health challenges. As we embark on this transformative journey, the collaboration between healthcare providers, local authorities, and communities will be crucial in shaping a healthier future for all. #NHS10YearPlan #HealthcareInnovation #CommunityHealth #GreaterManchester #LiveWell #Prevention #DigitalHealth #HealthEquity https://orlo.uk/37GWj

Good news. Greater Manchester has exceeded the national target for physical health checks for people with severe mental illness. At year-end 19,075 people with severe mental illness received a full physical health check from their GP (out of 27,215 registered). This represents 70% coverage, well above the national ambition of 60%. Every borough across Greater Manchester achieved above the national 60% target, reflecting a strong collective effort across primary care, mental health, and community services to tackle health inequalities and improve outcomes for people with severe mental illness. People living with severe mental illness face significant health inequalities and are at greater risk of dying prematurely, often from preventable physical health conditions. Ensuring timely physical health checks helps identify risks early, support better care, and save lives. This progress represents a step forward in addressing these inequalities across our region. Let’s keep building on this momentum to further close the health gap and ensure everyone with severe mental illness receives the care and support they deserve. NHS Greater Manchester reposted this
𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 We believe that mental health matters—every day, for everyone. As part of International Men's Mental Health Month, we were proud to have Scott Williams from NHS Greater Manchester lead a session on the importance of this month. Mental health is not a one-size-fits-all issue, and it’s vital that we continue to create safe spaces where our team members—regardless of gender—feel heard and supported. Thank you, Scott, for joining us and sharing training and resources to not only reduce the stigma but also help us better support those in need. #MentalHealthAwareness #WellbeingAtWork #MentalHealthMatters
