Rochdale’s former mayor, Councillor Shakil Ahmed has helped raise £3,500 for Rochdale AFC Community Trust in aid of the Team Thompson Against Cancer Appeal. The Thompson family attended the Crown Oil Arena recently to receive the cheque from the 2024/25 Mayor’s Charity Appeal. Councillor Ahmed said he has been humbled by the generosity of residents: “This was more than a fundraising effort, it’s about standing together as a community and showing the Thompson family and others facing similar battles, that they’re not alone. I also thank Rochdale AFC Community Trust for their incredible partnership and support throughout the campaign.” Chantelle Thompson said - "We are overwhelmed by the support we’ve received. The kindness shown by the mayor, Rochdale AFC Community Trust and everyone who donated means more than words can express.
