  • 🔥 5 lives saved from fire. 🚑 2,900 falls attended. All in just one year. Tameside’s Community Response Service (CRS) is an invisible safety net that helps residents stay safe at home. Day and night. Yet a lot of people don't even know about it. Last year alone, their team responded to 2,141 smoke detector activations. Five of the calls resulted in real fires where the team saved lives by alerting the fire service. They also supported over 2,900 people who had fallen, helping most back to their feet without the need for hospital admission. CRS is our 24/7 in-house telecare service, offering devices like fall pendants and smoke detectors linked directly to their control centre at Dukinfield Town Hall. 💡 If you or someone you care about wants to stay living independently and safely at home, this service could make all the difference. 📞 Find out more at www.tameside.gov.uk/crs or call 0161 342 5100. • One of the ways we support care leavers is through regular peer to peer get-togethers. Recently, a couple of people weren't able to join because they didn't have the right clothing for a walk. So the team have come up with The Wardrobe project. Staff are being offered the chance to donated good quality clothes that they no longer need- this could be work wear, outdoor clothes and everyday outfits. The donations will support our care experienced young people aged 16-25. The initiative seeks to empower young people by offering access to quality clothing that will boost self-esteem. They're also planning to involve care experienced young people in the project by offering volunteering opportunities at The Wardrobe to support them in valuable employment experience. In time, we'll encourage a cycle of giving, with some of the young people donating back into the project. To obtain the sustainability aspect of the project, a sewing kit is going to be used to restore items for use. A big thank you to the Staying close team and Leaving Care for supporting the project. Pictured is Cllr Teresa Smith who joined the team to help support the launch and show her thanks.

  • “I don’t know where I would be or what I would have done without the guidance and support", was the emotional feedback given from a parent who accessed help and advice provided by a community group which has been supported by the Best Start for Life Community Fund. The care offered to parents and families during pregnancy and the first two years of a child’s life is vitally important, which is why we're encouraging more community groups to apply for up to £11,000 of funding. The latest round of funding aims to empower voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCFSE) and groups to grow their mental health support and services through a range of initiatives. If your run a VCFSE that supports the mental wellbeing of families with babies and young children, find out if you are eligible. The deadline for applications is Friday 1 August. • Helping local residents and businesses find the answers they need as quickly as possible has been our focus as we look at modernising how you contact us. Providing a service which reduces wait times, answers queries effectively, and provides a more accessible services is a priority. Which is why we have been working behind the scenes to bring exciting improvements to our resident experience, and we’re weeks away from launching our fantastic new telephony solution.  The first phase of the rollout focuses on Customer Services, Council Tax and Housing Benefits which will mean people are able to get information through a convenient automated function when they call. They’ll still be able to speak to a person, but can also get information quicker, if that’s all they need. Collaboration is the key and colleagues in Customer Services have been testing the system to ensure the launch goes smoothly, and we can’t wait to share updates soon. Watch this space!

  • Would you like to make a difference in Tameside and support residents into work? 🙌 Tameside Council’s Employment & Skills team is inviting local organisations to bid for funding through the Economic Inactivity Trailblazer Programme. This initiative aims to pilot innovative, community-based offers that help residents who are not in employment, not actively seeking/starting work to start moving towards or back into work. This includes people with a health barrier, caring responsibilities (including looking after family, other dependants or the home) and those discouraged or lacking confidence to find work. The primarily focus is on supporting residents in St Peter’s Ward, although we acknowledge that support may naturally extend locations for operational reasons. Guidance notes and application forms are available by emailing: employmentandskills@tameside.gov.uk 📩 For any questions or support, please contact Aaron Middlehurst, Project Manager: aaron.middlehurst@tameside.gov.uk or 07594647557 To apply, please submit your application form by 12pm on Thursday 7 August 2025.
