After years of careful planning, development, and community collaboration, the brand-new Women and Children’s Building at the Countess of Chester Hospital will officially open its doors in September 2025. Delivered by #IHP, the joint venture between VINCI Building UK and Sir Robert McAlpine, this landmark new building marks a new chapter for patient care, bringing with it an enhanced, family-centred approach that promises to transform the experience for patients, families, and staff alike. This state-of-the-art facility offers a welcoming, home-from-home environment for patients and their families, while supporting the highest standards of care. Local schools in Prestwich have created some eye-catching designs for the hoardings surrounding the site for the new Prestwich Travel Hub – the first phase of the ambitious £100m regeneration being delivered by Muse, Bury Council and VINCI Building UK. As part of our commitment to community engagement and social value, we worked with the schools to explore what Prestwich means to them. From iconic landmarks like the Bee Network tram and St Mary’s Church, to local cafes and green spaces, the children’s artwork is now proudly featured. A huge thank you to the pupils and teachers involved from Butterstile Primary School and St Mary’s CE Primary Schools. Adam Lynch, Project Manager said: “Welcoming the children to site and seeing their artwork is a proud moment. We’re proud to announce that the Sulis Elective Orthopaedic Centre has been named Healthcare Project of the Year (Secondary/Tertiary Care) at the 2025 Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) Awards. This prestigious accolade celebrates excellence in the use of modern construction techniques to deliver high-quality, sustainable healthcare environments. This award reflects the outstanding collaboration, innovation, and commitment of everyone involved in the project, from design and delivery to stakeholder engagement and sustainability. The project, which is being delivered by IHP, the joint venture between VINCI Building and Sir Robert McAlpine for Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, and procured through the ProCure22 framework, includes two new build operating theatres and two refurbished theatres. Together, these facilities will enable treatment for an additional 3,750 non-emergency orthopaedic NHS patients annually across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, Wiltshire, and the wider region.
