  • Liverpool City Council joins communities across Australia in mourning the passing of Father Chris Riley, founder of Youth Off The Streets. His dedication to helping young people left a legacy of hope, care and opportunity. Upon hearing the news, Mayor Ned Mannoun reflected on the life of Fr Chris Riley: “On behalf of Liverpool City Council, I extend our deepest condolences following the passing of Father Chris Riley SDB AM. Father Riley was a tireless advocate for disadvantaged youth and a true champion of compassion, whose work through Youth Off The Streets changed countless lives across Australia. He inspired hope where it was needed most and gave a voice to those often unheard. Liverpool mourns the loss of a remarkable priest, and we honour his lifelong commitment to helping others. May he rest in peace." – Mayor Ned Mannoun. Our thoughts are with all who knew, loved and were helped by Father Chris Riley. --  #LiverpoolCityCouncil Image credit: Youth off the Streets

  • Over the weekend University of Wollongong students got a chance to check out their new home. Early next year, Liverpool Council’s Civic Place building will be the Liverpool Campus for UOW students in a move that successfully completes the leasing of the commercial floors at Civic Place. UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor G.Q. Max Lu said the event marked the University’s strong commitment to Western Sydney. Open Day is all about people – meeting future students, their families, and the community we’re proud to be part of,” Professor Lu said. “While our new campus is still taking shape, the conversations and connections that begin here are just as important. We’re excited to support students in Liverpool as they explore what’s possible through education. Mayor Ned Mannoun said this was an exciting development for both UOW and Liverpool City Council. “Having the UOW as the main tenant is a win for both the Council and the University,” Mayor Mannoun said. “It also sends a strong message that Liverpool’s CBD is not only growing, but is fast becoming the location of choice for major organisations and it’s all part of our purpose of being a leading education city that attracts students and other educational institutions.” Ned Mannoun Jason Breton University of Wollongong Charishma Kaliyanda Tina Bono Julie Scott --  #LiverpoolCityCouncil #UOWOpenDay #UniversityOfWollongong #Liverpool

  • Deputy Mayor Peter Harle, along with Councillor Fiona Macnaught and Councillor Peter Ristevski, were thrilled to welcome students and teachers from our sister city, Toda, Japan. The Liverpool-Toda Sister City relationship continues through cultural exchanges and lasting connections since 1993. This year, the Toda students gifted the City of Liverpool a beautiful traditional lacquer clock featuring the “Hatsune” design, a symbol of elegance and heritage from Japan’s Tokugawa era. In return, we gifted our visitors' personalised jars of Vegemite, a taste of Aussie greatness and a hand-crafted ceramic piece by Sydney artist Deborah Woodhouse, whose nature-inspired sculptures celebrate the beauty of Australian flora and fauna. -- #SisterCity #TodaJapan #LiverpoolCityCouncil #Culture #GlobalFriendship
